Odds and ends with Rob and Kevin
with the aawn or each semester comes a chang
ing of the guard up here at The Gamecock. Seniors
leave, underclassmen are promoted, people come and
people go. It’s unusual for any one of us to be in the
same section for more than two semesters, much less
the same position, and this semester proves to follow
suit.
Encore’s former editor Rob Lindsey has since left
the hallowed halls of The Gamecock and has moved
on to bigger and better things (we guess). He will be
missed up here, but we must move on. We can only
hope to do his previous efforts justice, as his shadow
will forever be cast on this section.
In keeping with the spirit of a new semester and
New Year, we here at Encore are beginning a num
ber of new features to offer you a more informative
paper. Box office reports, movie times and new re
leases are all things that we are working to include
within the pages of Encore.
In addition to these we are asking you the reader
to contribute your thoughts and ideas to our paper. Did
you see a live show you enjoyed? Send in your review
to us. Planning on going to see “Next Friday” this
Friday? Send that or any movie review in, too. Your
ideas can appear in print as a full-fledged Encore re
view.
Our e-mail isgamecockencore@hotmail.com. We
want to know what you think, and if we like what you
have to say, you’re in. It’s that easy.
Wp want this section to reflect the opinions and
preferences of the reader. We can only tell you what
we think about certain films or albums. It is up to you,
the reader, to interact with us and tell us what you
want. It isn’t hard. We don’t bite or anything.
We want this section to live up to the potential it
has and eventually become the most waited-for sec
tion of The Gamecock. This section should be the pulse
of the paper, and this can easily happen with your help.
A few semesters ago when Encore was simply a
weekly section in part with the paper and not the great
tabloid it is now, Rob Lindsey and co-editor Erin Reed
adopted as their slogan, “All Aboard For Fun Time.”
We hope to carry on with this spirit and make writng
for, working for and reading this section fun. Why
shouldn’t it be anything but fun?
If you don’t like what we’re saying, tell us. Or if
you think you can say it better, prove it. We love to
be proven wrong. Or at least Kevin does. He has
simply gotten used to it after 20 years of being
wrong all the time.
Also look for us to rant on whatever we feel moved
to pick on each week. This space will be filled with
our nonsensical ramblings on anything from boy bands
to rap metal. Whatever catches our fancy. We encourage
you to actively participate in this, as well. If you like
Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit, give us a good reason as to
why... seriously. We don’t get it.
An additional avenue for your interaction with us
will be through sporadic polls and open-ended ques
tions that dig into your CD collection or your opinion
. of movies.
Also, as a service to our Student Media counter
parts, we will be giving WUSC-FM its deserved ex
posure. We implore you to tune in and drop out.
A lot of changes are in store. And with your
help, we plan to make this paper something that does
n’t end up tossed to the floor behind your seat. At least
we’re going to try. So drop us a line if there’s some
thing you think is interesting enough to write about.
Encore is about all the things that are fun in life, be it
movies or music or whatever. This paper belongs to
us all and with your help, all kinds of interests can be
represented. We look forward to hearing from you
soon.
Much love and peppermints,
Kevin Langston - Encore Editor
