Scott Hagler's re-try of an extra point
gave USC its 10th win of the season, a
heart-stopping conquest in front of 80,500
fans at Frank Howard Field.
Hagler, who explained later that he
missed the first attempt because he hesi
tated when he heard an official's whistle,
was given another chance when Clemson
was penalized for having 12 men on the
field.
The win was USC's first against the
Tigers since the George Rogers era and
the first at Clemson since 1970. With it,
the Gamecocks accepted an invitation to
the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.
