Brian Roberts and Nate
Janowicz (below) were both
newcomers to the USC
baseball program in 1999.
They gave Ray Thnner as
solid of a 1-2 punch at the
top of the order as he could
have asked for.
Roberts hit .353 (78-for221),
while leading the team
in home runs (12) and stolen
bases (67).
Janowicz hit .324 (66-for204)
with seven home runs

Roberts was drafted by
the Baltimore Orioles in the
supplemental first round of
the major league baseball
draft Roberts signed on July
14.
Janowicz will return to
USC for his senior season.

The USC softball team (above)
put themselves back on the map with
a 43-16 season.
The Gamecocks were led on the
field by senior all-american Kim
Pietro. Pietro hit .424 (72-for-170),
with four home runs and 36 RBIs.
Freshman Megan Matthews led
the pitching staff. Matthews went
24-11 with a 1.53 ERA, while striking
out 248 and walking 52.

. The USC volleyball team (right)
finished 21-11 overall and in second
place of the SEC Eastern Division,
with an 8-6 record.
The team ended its season Dec.
4 with a first round loss in the NCAA
Tburnament to Colorado State.
Ashley Edlund and Cindy
Robarge will tryout for a new
Professional Volleyball League being
formed in the United States.
