guitarist who should ever try to
mesh with Flea and Anthony Kiedis.
He brings an originality of style that
blends with the band in a way that
previous guitarist Dave Navarro never

the Chili Peppers forego much of their
traditional hard-driving funk (though
there are exceptions such as "Right
on Time," "Get on Top" and "I Like
Dirt") for a more mature song craft,
relying more on the songs themselves
to get the message across than on the
band's energy performing them.
Kiedis, who has battled his own
addictions, sounds more confident in
his voice than he ever has. Even on
the band's breakthrough single, "Under
the Bridge," Kiedis sounded tentative,
unsure to be singing the lyrics
instead 01 screaming them. On ualifornication,"
songs such as "Otherside,"
"Porcelain," "Scar Tissue" and
the title track count solely on Kiedis'
new vocal strength for their success.
All four are quality songs, even if they
don't fall under the previous umbrella

However, somewhere between the
lilting ballads and the straightforward
funk songs is where the Chili
Peppers thrive. Rock songs such as
"Around the World," "Parallel Universe,"
"This Velvet Glove" and "Emit
Remmus" have solid grooves and solid
lyrics and are the best songs on the
album. Such a
distinction as
I "best of the alI
bum" is difficult to
I make with "Cab
E fornication,
though. It is a
tremendously listenable
album,
perhaps not as
flashy and actionpacked
as older
releases, but it has
the best songs of
any Chili Peppers'

Miyo's fine Szechwan and Shanghai
cuisine is a great lunch and dinner
option near campus. It is a good place
to go if you are looking for a good Asian
meal near campus in an upscale casual
atmosphere. The prices are moderate
and the portions are hearty, so

I have always been especially fond
of Miyo's chicken and vegetarian dishes.
They are not the most creative Asian
dishes I have come across, but they are

and then the true meat of the gamevide
more than simple data relay;
they're artificial worlds themselves.
Effectively, every server is its own
realm. Every realm in Everquest is a
very large arrangement of cities
and terrains with nearly every element
of fantasy that European legend
provides: fairies, gnomes and the
like.

has environmental algorithms, which
distribute weather patterns. To add
to this realism, night and day are
timed in intervals, with a smooth transition
into each.
The player can select a character
to play from a variety of classes, in
the classic role-playing tradition. Players

on vegetables. I am always impressed
by the freshness of their vegetables and
the quality of their meats.
The service is generally very
good, but can be slow ,
during lunch hour.
They also have a great
selection of beverages,
ranging from fresh
vegetable and fruit
juices to sake marti- I

joy sake, they have an
ample selection.

the realm with ease.
Hie only downsides to all of this
are the price tag and the time requirement.
The Everquest software
is about $40, and, after the one-month
free trial period, it's $10 a month to
play. This isn't at all excessive, but it
is something to consider. I know many
pirates out there are donning their
software theft hats as they read this,
but eve iy CD has a unique key, making
piracy abad idea. You should simply
buy the software.
The only other downside is the
time commitment the game requires.
Characters improve with level advancement,
which means more play
time. This game is beautiful, but
addictive, and it takes a unique obligation
if players expect to improve
their characters in relation to others
around them
at Miyo's
