will be named the btrom 1 hurmond

South Carolina's senior senior U.S.
senator, and will offer an indoor pool,

Also included will be a 20,000
square-foot weight room and cardiovascular
area, squash and racquetball
courts, aerobics studios, an auxiliary
gym designed for roller hockey or soccer,
an outdoor pool and a commons
area.
The center, scheduled for completion
in 2001, will be located at the

"There are a lot of opportunities
for unstructured exercise," said Tharp.
"Through the week, students can
participate in any of these activities on
their own. We work with students
who want unstructured activities and
try to help them develop a fitness plan,
but a lot of our energy goes into the
structured programs."
The campus recreation office offers
48 different aerobics classes a se
mester, serving more than 1,000
students.
The classes range from beginner
to advanced levels, including low-impact
aerobics such as water aerobics
and deep-water running.
"Students who want to get involved
in fitness programs have so
many opportunities," said Tharp.
"And because students' schedules vary
so much, we have openings that will
benefit pretty much all of those schedules."
Parts of the Blatt P. E. Center are
closed during the day for classes, but
the facility is open 10-15 hours every
day of the week.
