Thank you once again, announcer boy. Before I start this week's noble experiment, I must speak seriously. To all the people who love and hate me, I think we should put our differences aside and say a prayer to the troops in the former Yugoslavia. Also, we should pray to the memories of the people who had their lives taken way too soon in Littleton, Colo. v That said, this week is a very special one for me. All the goofy introductions I have written for this column have led up to this moment. Today, we will play a disturbing game of "Sports Jeopardy." Now, let us meet our contestants. First, we have a man who takes pride at praising and ripping the Gamecocks with his hell-raising, heartfelt columns. No, we're not talking about me; we're talking about my possible heir apparent, David Cloninger. Next, we have a man who takes great comfort in Southern Comfort, among other things, as well as in avoiding Capstone dramatics. Here he is, the Consulieri of the Liquor Store, Ed Caba. Finally, we have the Queen of All Media at The Gamecock. She is the one person who tries to put me on a leash week after week, with minimal results. I still love her, though, because she's my editor in chief: Sara Ladenheim. If you've seen "Jeopardy," you should know the rules. Now, here are the categories: Rag" Arms, Know Your Role, The Heimlich Maneuver, Lameclucks, Monica Says, "U Suck", and finally, I Wish I Were a Woman. Sara, since you are my boss, you may go first. "Ill take 'I Wish I Were A Woman' for $1,00CT, Mr. Serv On." Here is your clue. "Don Singletonio was very pissed when he didn't get an autograph from this three-time NFL MVP because he didn't have any breasts. (Buzz) Yes, Consulieri. "Could it be Brett Favre?" Of course it is. (The crowd applauds, as the game is now underway.) Ed, please select. "Ill take 'I Wish I Had... I mean... Was a Woman' for $800." Are you that desperate, Ed? Nevertheless, here is your clue. "Don Singletonio attempted to have a conversation with this wrestling legend but could not get an autograph because he was following the scattered booty." (Buzz) Can you take it, Ed? "Who is Rick Flair?" You are so right, drunk one. Se- . lect a category. "Ill take 'Rag Arms' for $400, Don Singletonio." Respect your Don, and look at this clue. Traded to the Cincinnati Reds, this lormer craves pitcher was about as accurate as a climax scene in an adult movie. (Buzz) Yes, David. "Who is Mark Wohlers, damn it?" Correct for $400. Select again. "Since you want to trash my Braves, 111 just as well take 'The Heimlich Maneuver' for $1,000, @#%*er." No foul language, OK. Here is the clue. The Braves blew a 3-1 lead to the Yankees and lost a chance to repeat in this year's Series. (Buzz) Yes, Ed. "What is 1996?" Incorrect. (Buzz) Sara, can you take it? "What is 1958?" Outstanding, boss. Select a category. "I'm afraid of the answer, but I'll try 'Lameclucks' for $1,000." Here is the clue. ~~ SINGLETON page 7 BASKETBALL Viktoria Hollosy, a 6-4 cener/forward from Budapest, lungary, has signed a letter >f intent to play basketball or the Lady Gamecocks this all. Freshman pitcher Chris Spigncr was throwing his usual blazing Fastball and tantalizing curve, and DSC could see the victory after a Marcus McBeth triple in the second inning scored freshman first baseman IVey Dyson. USC even added to its lead by scoring McBeth on a squeeze play bunt from sophomore Bryon Jeffcoat. With a 2-0 lead and Clemson starter Mike Proto shaken up, thanks to a Tim Angiolini hit glancing off his right shin, the Gamecocks looked to avenge their 8-7 loss in Columbia last iveek. The Tigers came roaring back in he bottom half of the stanza, putting Ellis on second and sending him home m a Kyle Frank line drive to left.
