The Smackdown WCW put
~ in a fairly
strong show
this Monday. There was much excite
ment over the new look NITRO. WCW
introduced a new stage, a new logo and
new referees jerseys.
It also moved the announcers
back to ringside and changed back to a
two-man announce team format. It looks
like Mike Tenay has been relieved from
his duties on NITRO; what a relief for
the viewers.Tenay is perhaps the biggest
tool ever to announce a wrestling broadcast
Week in and week out, Tenay bored
us with pointless information that usually
had nothing to do with the match
that was taking place. I'm glad to see
that WCW saw the light and got rid of
his Rudy-Pooh Candy. Other highlights
of NITRO included Rey Jr. and Kidman
retaining their tag titles, "Hacksaw"
Jim Duggan returning to the ring after
a bout with cancer, and the fourway
match main event between Hogan,
Flair, DDP and Goldberg.
The main event resulted in a "no
contest" after that man who wears black
and white, whom I refuse to identify as
Sting, dropped into the ring and caused
a little havoc. As a result of the Crow
Wannabe's interference we now know
that the main event for the Sunday PPV
will be another four-way match between
Hogan, Flair, DDP and the impostor
Sting. The special guest referee will be
none other than "Macho Man" Randy
Savage. What can I say about RAW, but
FANTASTIC!
The WWF was on Long Island and
had the crowd was out of their seats the
entire night.The show started off with
Kane and X-pac winning the tag straps
from "Double J" and "The Nugget" Owen
Hart Hnmet.nwn favnrit.n Mankind
pulled off the victory against "The Big
Valbowski" Val Venis.Toward the end
of the night, the Undertaker and the
Ministry of Darkness made another
"sacrifice." Folks Tve got to tell you, this
Undertaker thing is getting way out of

Although the night hit a major
low with the UT sacrifice, the show ended
on a very high note. The main event
was a handicap match between TripleH
and the Rock vs. The Gia... no, wait,
Paul Wight. Chyna gave the victory
to Wight after she nailed him with a
low blow. The corporation then attacked
"The Big Show," but Steve Austin returned
last week's favor by running
in and clearing the ring.
Austin and Wight proceeded to rip
apart the Titan-Tron video screen.Last
week, ESPN aired an "Outside the
Lines" about professional wrestling.
They discussed almost every aspect ol
the sport, from its unbelievable rating
to its effects on children. I thought
the documentary was very well done
and very fair. It looked at all aspects ol
the business with an open eye and treated
everyone in the sport with respect.
If you get a chance to watch a repeat
broadcast of the special, be sure not to
turn the channel.
Well, folks, last week I started the
crusade to get USA at USC.But I cannot
win that fight alone. I'm trusting
that all of you wrestling fans, sport fans
and TV fans will get on the phone and
express your opinion to those Jobronis
over at G-cock cable. The number
is: Call them and let them know how
you feel, and maybe next year we'll be
able to watch RAW in the comfort ol
our own rooms.
This week I'm going to send a special
"Smack Down" message to all of the
fans who are thinking about purchasing
this Sunday's WCW PPV. Listen
folks, DON'T DO IT. Every time I've
ever watched a WCW PPV I've been
disappointed.For whatever reason,
WCW PPVs are usually boring and are
no tun to wateh.l believe that this stems
from the fact that the people who are
in charge of WCW, and no, Flair has no
real influence backstage, are complete
idiots. WCW events are hastily
planned and are about as organized as
a Chinese fire drill. If you really want
to watch the PPV this Sunday, then
find someone who owns a black box.

"Defensively, we played pretty
well," Holtz said. "John Abraham had
an outstanding scrimmage."
He also commented on the play of
the secondary. "[T.J.] Hines did a nice
job, and O'Rondai Cox improved
tremendously.
