In the sports world these days, we seldom see
many team players. These are the players whe
play for the love of the game, have a respect foi
the game, and don't have an ego that jumps of
the wall. , .
The majority of soccer players today are tean
players. They don't care where they play, as long
as they have a chance to showcase what they car
do. These are the kinds of players that all sports
need.
One of these players is USC soccer's own Hen
ry Ring. A redshirt sophomore out of Brent
wood, Tenn., Ring demonstrates daily that hav
ing a respect and love for the game will get yoi
some in return.
"More and more people are getting out there,'
Ring says. "Like for that UCLA game, thai

It isn't a surprise that more and more people
are flocking to go see the USC soccer team. Thej
currently are 10-3, and ranked No. 7 in the na
tion.
Just having a love and respect for the game
doesn't always mean positive results will come
your way. It also takes dedication, talent anc
especially focus.
"We are definitely focused," Ring said. "We an
getting better every game.
Another aspect of a good team is unity, something
this Gamecock team is all about. "This tean
is very tight; we're like a family," Ring says.
Besides being a family on the field, this
team is together off the field too.
Ring explained that the team was "out there
for 2 1/2 hours every day. After this we are always
hanging out."
Unity is one thing that can make or break a
team. Luckily, this team is a family ? something
that will prove very important come tourna
ment time.
Ring, now in his second full Season, has defi
nitely earned his spot in goal. Last year, aftei
much work and improvement, he was namec
starter only after the third game of the season
Before coming to Carolina, Ring was an UM
BRO/NSCAA Ail-American, as well as the Ten
nessee player of the year and the Gatorade
player of the year.
Even though he was the top goalkeeping
prospect from Tennessee, Henry wasn't offered a
scholarship to any big school.
