Carolina victories over
Southwest Missouri State and
EvansviUe seal title.
staff writer J ARED KELOWITZ
The Gamecock men's soccer team
hosted and successfully defended its
title at the second annual Sunbeam
Soccer Classic this weekend at Stone
Stadium.
Coming off consecutive losses to
Virginia Commonwealth and Clemson,
the Gamecocks were being questioned
by many. But any doubter's fears
were put to rest when Carolina defeated
nationally ranked Southwest
Missouri State 1-0, and followed that
with a decisive 3-0 victory over Evansville
to repeat as champions of the Classic.
The Gamecocks' trademark this
season had been aggressive defensive
efforts and this past weekend proved
to be no different. Goalkeeper Heniy
Ring gained his sixth shutout in the
firstgame and combined with Matt
Landman to split the second game's
shutout. Landman has yet to yield a
goal this year in net.
"Henry and Matt are doing a great
job in goal for us this season, and the
all-around defensive effort by Scott
Campagna, Anders [Ronnevig] and
Hans [Whetstone] is solid," senior
Nathan Watkins said. "We are very

USC coach Mark Berson echoed
Watkins' sentiments.

he said. "It has been all season because
