leaving, but she is
taking the occasion of her resignation
to bring some of her concerns
to the attention of the administration.
We'd do well to heed
her concerns.
Right now, many students go
through USC without ever working
with an African-American professor.
This is unfortunate, as
we are not exposed to the diversity
we will meet in the real world.
It is especially unfortunate for
African-American students, who
don't get to learn from the experiences
of people who may share
their social and cultural roots.
Pieford does not have statistics
to back up her belief that

who have left USC recently is
"shocking." The fact that she does
not have statistics, though, is part
of the problem.
Apparently, there is not an
agency on campus whose job it is
to ascertain why professors leave
the university.
There should be such an office,
so we will know why we are losing

could be true for other minority

overworked because of her minority
status.
We have some concern for diversity
at USC. That concern leads
campus groups to want to have diversity
within their group. So when
a committee is being put together,
the few minority professors are
likely to get asked. Pigford was on
a long list of committees, and held
leadership positions in many of

This left her with less time to
devote to the things that advance
her career: research and writing.
And when she'd resign from one
committee, she was criticized. It
seems the administration doesn't
have a healthy respect for the special
burdens of minority faculty.
To show their concern for these
professors plight, and to help retain
them, the administration
should begin studying what they
can do to make minority professors'
experiences positive ones.

Over the years, the American people
have become increasingly
aware of discrimination incidents
against minorities.
First, we became more sensitive to
prejudice against African-Americans

In this column, I would like to educate
you about a lesser-known but stillprevalent
form of discrimination: prejudice
against the long-haired male.
Yes, I have long hair. Or, in the words
of some of my friends, Fm a "long-haired
hippieboy." This is inaccurate, since I
am not and have never been a hippie.
Well, I did go to a Phish concert this
past summer, and I do own a few Grateful
Dead CDs.
Why do I have long hair? Well, why
not? For most of my life, my hair was
cut by a 70-year-old man named Elmo.

Americans'seem to be honestly insulted
by Clinton's telling them lies
about his sex terrorist's life. It is interesting
that most Russians do not
feel any offense, due to Yeltsin's hopeless
alcoholic's life.
Why? I guess because Russians have
been constantly subjected to the government's
insults because of a ruined
economy and raging organized crime.
Are there millions and millions of
professional, hardworking and talented
Americans who have no idea how to
make their ends meet? I don't think so.
That is the case with some types of
people in Russia. Who cares that Yeltsin
drinks? The real problem is that he was
one of the people who screwed up the
economy and the country!
And he seemed just the right man
for Russia's future back in 1991,
when he broke up with the Communist
Party of the Soviet Union and went to
the barricades in Moscow to help crush
down the satanic danger of Communism.

the instant I grew my hair out,
long hair went out of fashion.
My point is, I was still the same person,

Older adult males would ask if I was

A few women would refuse to date
me, for no reason other than my hair.
This really did happen. Of course, I
found out later these women were extremely
shallow and vacuous, so their
rejection was probably a good thing.
Of course, I can't forget the taunts

People believed in him. But he deceived

Mafia-run Communist rule! That's
what I call a real insult.
I honestly respect some Americans'
feelings and beliefs that Clinton let
them down and should resign. Well, I
am personally and deeply disillusioned
about politics and politicians.
I believe that politics are not for angels
at all, to be put mildly. It is for
smart guys.
i am not trying to protect unnton
from public condemnation, but given a
choice, I would opt for a potent president,
a smart guy, running a great country
with a sound economy, rather than
an alcoholic who's taking his country,
which is full of potential, into an abyss.
I bet you heard a lot of jokes about

you a joke about Yeltsin: he was once

avoid the troubles of persuading Yeltsin
that a professional driver was available.
But Yeltsin stands firm and said, "I
am the president of Russia! Let me drive!"
His powerless team allowed him
to get behind the wheel.
While Yeltsin zigzagged on the road,
he sideswiped a sleek Russian Mafia
beamer. Outraged mobsters jumped out
of their car to get the offender to pay
up for the damages.
Before they approached the presidential
limo, they rushed back to their
wrecked BMW and sped off.
Their boss wondered, "So, you got
the money, right?" "No," they replied.
"Sorry, Chief, we did not know what
kind of Mafia that was, but they've got
President Yeltsin as a driver!"
They say every joke has a little joke
in it. If so, I wonder if the Russian Mafia
will take over Russia and eventually
the entire world. If this happens, I
promise you that someone's sex life will
not be the public's biggest problem.

I've got pretty broad shoulders, even
for a man. Then again, maybe these
men prefer the type of woman who can
easily break them in half.
So this type of guy will drive up to
me slowly, hoping to get a good gander
at my non-existent breasts. Hell suavely
turn his head to me, as if to say, "Hey,
cutie! Ever been loved by a real man

These are just a few examples of
