Career Fair to

Many freshmen are getting a
head start in the job market by attending
this year's career fair.
Students agree the career fair will
help them understand the workings of
specific careers and raise their awareness
of alternative fields.
"Some people are not sure of what
they want to do, so I think they'll go
to this fair to enhance their knowledge
of other careers," freshman Nicole Turn

When students vote on Thursday ,
for the 1998 hall government officers, .
they will select students who will eventually
spend thousands of residents' ,
dollars on hall government activities (
for the year. (
Students elected to serve on the ex- j
ecutive board of hall government meet ,
weekly to discuss anything from social
events to building improvements. Any- (
one who lives in a dorm has the opportunity
to attend the meetings and
voice an opinion, even if they are not
on the executive board.
When students pay to live on a res- ,
idence hall, they pay a student activi- .
ty fee. These fees add up, and the
students decide where the money should ]

The career fair will be held from 11
a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday on the second
floor of the Russell House.
It is a good idea for students to attend
the fair because of its less formal
atmosphere, said Maureen Durkin, the
program's coordinator.
"We want our students to succeed,
and this is the kind of event that provides
students with co-op jobs or internships,"
Durkin said.
The career fair is in its 23rd year.
Previously the fair had 75 employers
representing different companies. Now
the fair has 90 representatives.

"My main goal this year with RHA
is to work side-by-side with Student
Government. The last president did an

follow up," RHA President Emily Rivers

Each residence hall has its own government
or council. Those elected serve
a one-year term. The positions available
include president, vice president,
secretary, treasurer, two RHA senators
and two floor representatives. Anyone
who lives in a dorm is eligible to run for
an office.
"I want to get more involved in RHA

meet with other members, see what
their ideas are and add my own personal
ideas," said freshman Meliah Bowsrs,
