History sophomore Laura Moxie
had a problem last semester finding
the right books for her English class
because the list of required books varied
from store to store. Problems like
this were attributed to communication
problems between bookstores and professors,
and to reprinting book lists to
accbmmodate changes

Computer science freshman Brad
Dawgert went to Addam's and University
bookstores Wednesday, but between
those stores only three of his
classes were listed, and he could only
find books for two of them.
"The trouble I've had trying to find
the stores and the harassment of them
not having any of the books I need
has not been the most enjoyable experience,"
Dawgert said.
McLauchlin said for those books
that were turned in on time, "98 percent
are here... the other two percent
are mainly new additions that haven't
been printed yet."
"We always want the number one
supplier of books to be the student,"
McLauchlin said. "You immediately

many students drive off campus to
drink, blaming the university for campus
alcohol policies. Pruitt said the university
won't accept blame for something
that is the student's responsibility.
Pruitt and Lott agree that students
don't think DUI-related accidents are
a reality for them.
"Students have a sense of invincibility,"
he said, referring to the saying
about going first-class on the Titanic.

Lee, who says things at SC Book- I

way they did last January, said that in
cases where books have not been or- |
dered, they are willing to special order
the books. The later the professor or department
orders the books from them,
the more difficult it is to get the books
on the shelf in a timely fashion.
Michael Oliver, textbook manager
at Addam's Bookstore, agrees there

In order to help curb this problem,
store managers have met with textbook

"tremendous potential" for his store to
better its relationship with the faculty
It's a continual attempt to build a *
team relationship, and it takes the faculty,

Pruitt, the area president of the
Rape Crisis Network, also pointed
out that many acquaintance rapes take
place when alcohol is involved. Maturely
managing alcohol can help prevent such
crimes.
"Date rape is not a way to escape

in a lot of bad things that happen to college
students."
