BUFFALO, N.Y. - The men's and
women's track teams traveled to Buffalo,
N.Y., for the NCAA Outdoor Track
and Field Championships and came
away with two individual champions
and several outstanding performances.
Overall, the women's team finished
seventh at the Championships while
f the men placed 11th.
Brad Snyder successfully defended
his indoor championship in the shot
put and Lisa MisiDeka ended her ca
reer on a high note by capturing the
hammer title.
The Gamecocks saved their biggest
guns in Snyder, Misipeka and Trammed
for the final day. They didn't disappoint.
The three combined for two
first-place finishes and a close second
forTrammell.

Though USC shot an eight-over

with an impressive six-under par 1,146

of 1,170 (1984 in Houston, Tex.) by 24

which features three underclassmen
(two sophomores and one freshman),
was not expected to make the championship

the fifth team in school history to play
the final two rounds at college golfs

The Temecula, Calif., native was
unbeaten indoors (201b. weight) and
outdoors (hammer). Misipeka, who won
the SEC title three weeks ago, is currently
No. 10 in the world in the hammer.
Snyder remained unbeaten, indoors
and outdoors, as he won his second
NCAA title of the year. Snyder's throw
of 64-feet-4 3/4 bested the competition
by more than two teet. Snyder is just
the sixth person in NCAA history to
win the shot put indoors and outdoors.
"I am pleased, but I should have
thrown farther," Snyder said. "I just
didn't feel intense enough. I am glad
I won, though."
Trammell nearly captured thellO
meter hurdles title, but finished a close
second at 13.41 to the only collegiate
to beat him outdoors this year. Texas
A&NFs Larry Wade, a fifth-year senior,
won the title at 13.38.
"I didn't feel like I ran my race," the
freshman from Atlanta, Ga., said. I
felt positive going into the race. I felt
like my mechanics were ok, that I was
turning over. But sometime along the
race, things kind of got out of hand."
On Wednesday, baring temperatures
in the 50s and wind gusts up to
20 miles an hour, freshman Tanya
Bovey placed seventh in the 10,000 meter
final shattering her own school
record by more than 36 seconds.
"Tanya did a great job in the
10,000," USC head coach Curtis Frye
said. "Those two points will help us
out."

200 meters (24.43).
