2Skinnee ?Fs believe their music is
"all about love:" a love of playing
live and creatine' an unusual sound
The band mixes instrumentals and
rap to create what Special J., one of the
band's vocalists, calls a light-hearted
sound. Inspiration for most of their songs
^ comes from A. J. "Stumpy" Johnson, the
band's "manager" and spiritual adviser.
Supermercado, 2 Skinnee Ts major
label debut, attempts to demonstrate
this love. Unfortunately, something is
missing here that their independently
produced albums had.
This 12-track album, on the Capricorn
label, combines old songs from 2
Skinnee J's Return of the New and
Improved, including "The Best," "You're
A a Champion," "718" and "Mind Trick,"
with previously unreleased material.
The old songs, however, are significantly
slower and have been reworked
to include more instruments. The slowness
of these songs is what takes away
from Supermercado. For those who own
2 Skinnee J s earlier albums, the differences
might be surprising and unfavorable.
Despite these songs, the album is
definitely worth checking out. Some of
the best songs include "In the Clutches
of the Diabolical Sgt. Stiletto," "Wild
Kingdom" and "The Good, the Bad &
the Skinnee."
Special J. said several others were
recorded, but only the best-sounding
, songs made it onto the album.
"There were some battles between
us about the songs, but Stumpy picked
the ones that sounded good," Special J.
said.
No songs from their album, Sing,

J. Guevara, Andy Action, Special J,
Mays are members of the band the
Tuesday and Wednesday at the Elbov
included on Supermercado. The band
wanted to include "Irresistible Force,"
but a sample made the song too expensive
to produce.
The band's single, "Riot Nrrd," is being
played on WARQ 93.5 FM. "Riot Nrrd"
could be described as a tribute to
anyone who has been unpopular. The
song features samples, guitars and
drums that create an upbeat sound. The
video for "Riot Nrrd" will soon be played
on MTV, according to Capricorn Records.
2 Skinnee ?Ts have been compared
to 311 and The Beastie Boys, which the
band doesn't mind but also doesn't
understand.
"I don't get why we're compared to
311. because we don't use as manv erui
tars as them, and we don't have a 70s
funk sound like the Beastie Boys," Special
J. said.
