If you spent Saturday night in Five Points I
with some "hottie" and then went back to 1
his/her place, it is certain that you had a o
more exciting time than you would have if e
had you had gone to the spring football game, t
If you stayed at home and watched the e
Preview Channel all night long, chances are 0
that you still had a more exciting time than
at the spring game. o
But excitement isn't really the goal of
the spring game, which pits half of the Game- |
cock squad against the other half. The game
gives the players and the coaches an opportunity
to practice under the lights at I
Williams-Brice Stadium, but more impor- (
tantly the casual atmosphere surrounding ^
the game allows the fans to come onto the '
field after the contest and meet the players
and staff.
"This is the third time that we have re- 1
ally scrimmaged in 15 days," USC Head r
Coach Brad Scott said. "We chose to put the |
first team against the first team, and that
doesn't always set up the best spring game *
whe"n you do that. But we really have to
count this more as a practice than we do a
spring game." j
Even though the game was more like a
practice, score was kept, and the Garnet g
team (which wore white) came away with a '
14-7 victory. Quite appropriately, it was the
Garnet team that struck first when redshirt
freshman Andre Goodman picked off a pass P
and rumbled 26 yards for a touchdown with
14:52 remaining in the second quarter.
With the Garnet team up 7-0, the contest
remained a defensive stalemate until ^
the Black squad connected on a 34-yard TD- |

to junior Shah Mays with 36 seconds left in |
the first half At half-time, the game was in
a 7-7 deadlock. 0
"The first half was a non-eventful offensive
performance, but I think the defense R
did some good things out there," Scott said. f<
