Forrester said these characterises
she has developed in ROTC are of
reat importance, especially today when
lany women need a focus in life.
"It's a great experience, and I have
ecome a part of my own group, with
ly fraternity and sorority all in one."
Becoming a part of the ROTC proram
is difficult, but is open for anyone
iterested. Requirements consist of inmsive
applications and interviews,
len of course there are physical reuirements.
Although Forrester began
s a freshman, all those who are invested
can join and fulfill their needs.
"Anyone can join, and learn what it
ikes to prove yourself."

Perhaps that help shouldn't be a
uprise. The comic book industry, af:r
all, has a proud tradition of taking
1 real-life issues: drug abuse, racism,
xmsal abuse. As a kid, DeAngelo took
) heart the positive messages in
imir hnriks
"In high school, a lot of kids were
ito drinking or drugs," he says. "I nev
went for any of that stuff.... I reiember
seeing Spider Man's friend

my heroes were against that sort
thing."
DeAngelo, 30, hopes Captain Aware3ss
has the same kind of influence on
day's youth; the Captain College name
as changed to Captain Awareness
hen DeAngelo decided the book should
3 aimed at middle school and high
:hool students, too.
So who exactly is Captain Awareess?
He could be you, DeAngelo
lys.
"He stands for the idea that anyone
m be a hero. It's kind of like a power
lat is within each person and can manest
itself in times of crisis."
"Captain Awareness: Assault on

stores in April ? National Sexal
Assault Awareness Month ?
ith a $3.95 cover price. DeAngelo is
aping he at least breaks even; if there
a profit, about 25 percent will be
mated to the American Women's Self'efense
Association and the Rape,
buse and Incest National Network.
As far as the future of Captain

of the first book.
