Since fall 1989, students who
have graduated with Honors from the
South Carolina Honors College have
been required to complete a senior thesis
or project.
Students have often found creative
ways to fulfill this requirement and turn
what could be a relatively boring allresearch
experience into a fun and creative
endeavor.
At the celebration of the 20th anniversary
of the Honors College in January,
a history of the Honors College
was presented to President John Palms.
The history, completed this past fall,
was the joint project of Honors College
graduates Peter Siachos and Kathy
Aboe.
"I wrote an article for the Honors
College newsletter and said we would
be delighted if someone would write a
history of the Honors College," said Peter
Sederberg, Dean of the Honors College.

Non-residents in any hall should be
escorted by a resident at all times.
Residents must either present a
room key or student ID from 11:30 p.m.
until 8:00 a.m. Some halls, particularly
freshman halls, require residents to
do this all the time.
Only residents of Horseshoe Area
apartments are not required to show
identification or sign in guests because
there is no central lobby desk.
While a number of Towers residents
have made a complaints about desk attendants,
residents in halls such as
Bates House and Maxcy College, as well
as the South area, seem to agree that
there is not a big problem in their halls.
One Bates freshman said that she
has never seen a desk unattended
and that she has always been asked to
show her key when she goes by.
Mark Piras, desk coordinator for
Bates House, attributes the job his DAs
do to a "sense of pride" they feel when
they work.
Most of his DAs live in Bates and
realize that their own safety or the safely
