the Recycling Office would recycle the

The Recycling Office also has stopped
collecting books, magazines and journals
from university departments.
Pergolizzi said schools with outstanding
recycling programs base their
programs on student demand.
"If s important for [students] to know
it's up to them. They can demand a better
program," Pergolizzi said.
Students Allied for a Greener

that.

Housing
sign-up
to be
mailed
Feb. 20
asst. news editor CARRIE MCCULLOUQH
The new Department of Housing signup
forms will be mailed out the week of
Feb. 20.
Already students have questions and
complaints about how the apartments and
residence suites will be assigned.
Under the new system, students will
receive an information packet in their campus
mailbox with a request sheet to fill
out. On this information*sheet each stu
dent will put what residence hall or apartment
he or she wishes to live in next year.
The student will only be able to choose one
preferred roommate, even if an apartment
is being requested.
Gretchen Koehler-Shepley, associate
director of housing, confirmed that students
will only be allowed to indicate
one preferred roommate. She said that
is the way it was when students came
down to the Department of Housing for
room assignments.
Students will have a chance to make
room and roommate changes on April 23
and 24, Koehler-Shepley continued.
"We haven't got all of the details worked

(during room change dates) you can switch
there. I really don't expect to have many
openings," Koehler-Shepley said.
Milli Wehr, a junior nursing major,
is upset about this change. She lives in an
apartment on the Horseshoe this semester
with three other students that were
able to select each other as roommates
with the old system.
Last year all three of the students had
similar sign-up times and were able to
stand in line together and make their preference
known.
"Since I don't have a car I don't have
a choice," Wehr said about the possibility
of living off-campus next year.
Wehr was upset that the housing staff
will not talk to her about this. She said
she went down to the Department of Housing
recently to ask what students could
do if they wanted to choose three room
mates for an apartment, but she never
made it past the receptionist.
