To the editor,
Each Thanksgiving season it's a
common practice to pause to recount
those things for which we are thankful.
As we sit at the dinner table next
week, we can be thankful for the freedom
to choose. Our relative wealth will
allow us to choose whether or not to eat
in or dine out Most will be able to choose

ing number of Americans, however,
there will be no choice. Nearly a billion
members of the human family will be
hungry on our Thanksgiving Day. They
will have no dining options and many
may have no food at all.
With the freedom to choose that
you and I enjoy comes responsibilityresponsibility

and brothers who have no choice.

homelessness, many are choosing to enter
into the struggle against the con- ,
ditions and causes of hunger and poverty
by joining in the Oxfam Fast or
attending the Hunger Banquet or work- 1
ing at the Food Bank (just a few of the
options). But to not choose to join the 1
struggle is, de facto, to make a choice
that only perpetuates the great human
problem. In other words, there is no j
neutral position. And so it is not just !
hunger-related causes that kill some |
55,000 people each day, it is also apathy
that kills. (
Let us be thankftd for the freedom i
to choose this holiday season. May we ,
exercise that choice responsibly and (
compassionately. \

The Nazis killed 10s of millions of

As for the test of mustard gas on
the soldiers, it was done using a mild a
form of the chemical agent which caused

experiments was developed tactics and
equipment that would save many more
lives than the 4,000.
Military service is about sacrifice
and hard choices. The Armed Forces
are here to defend the Nation-period.
Our hands are soaked in the blood of
enemies as well as our own. That's why 0
we exist, to allow people to have their
