That's a lot of people, especially
for a country the size of
Cambodia. It is, in the purest
sense, a genocide.
Pol Pot came to power in
1975 and had visions of turning
Cambodia into a labor camp. Re*
searchers estimate between 1.7
million and 2 million died from
executions and exhaustion during
this time.
These days, Pol Pot is confined
to a hut with his wife and
child, according to an Associated
Press story. For about 20 years,
Pol Pot refused to talk to the
press. These days, he's talking
and not really apologizing.
He claims, in an interview

tention of the larger USC community.
Cliff Apartments is located on the
south side of campus (west of Bates)
and are designated as graduate and
family housing. Many of you were probably
unaware that this University
offers accommodations to students with
j. families, but, for those of us who need
it, Cliff Apartments is a wonderful opportunity
to remain close to campus
^ resources and still keep our costs down.
? We have a sense of community here.
r It's a quiet and safe environment.
This is all going to change in the
next few months.
3 The Board of Trustees has decided
to create a hew Greek Village. These
new buildings are certainly needed, as
can be seen from the condition of some
of the current Greek housing.
However, the plans for this project
indicate that two buildings will be
located directly in front of Cliff Apartments,
sitting on two-thirds of our current
parking lot. We do not object to
Greeks or to their being on campus.
We understand that they have
their place in college life. We just don't
think that place is within a few feet of
family housing. We think Greeks would
5 agree.
The placement of these units
, brings up safety issues, both during
5 and after construction. Our children
* will have to walk through this site just
to get to the bus stop on the other side
of the street. And once construction is
t finished, they will have to walk through
j Greek housing units.
i We know that parties and drink\
ing are part of the Greek social system.
You can see the broken bottles
t and other evidence of it around current
Greek residences. We are concerned
about alcohol, driving accidents,
I noise and other problems that might
arise from having Greeks living so close
to families.
Greeks may be pleased with the
new accommodations, but do thev want
to endure constant calls from upset
