For the match, Carolina had 16 aces, which is the most aces against an Arkansas team since [ Oct. 9, 1994, when Georgia had 16 against the Lady Razorbacks. Although the Arkansas match was the j big match of the weekend, the Gamecocks al? so defeated LSU Friday night in three sets, ' 15-1,15-6,15-5. Carolina thoroughly dominated the match as was evident in Game 1, which took all of 14 minutes to complete. Robarge had the big match for Carolina with nine kills, one block solo, two block assists and three digs. She also hit .643 for the match. After having surgery on her ankle in April, this was the first big performance for the Columbia native since coming back. "It's been hard battling back, but Fm finally starting to feel like Tm getting my game back," the 1996 second-team All-SEC member said. "Hopefully, this is just the beginning of better things to come for me." Up next for the Gamecocks is another homestand this weekend. USC will host Mississippi State Friday at 7 p.m. and Missis' sippi Sunday at 2 p.m. M ? 1 rails let team down Saturday | Gamecock Pride | USC Head Football Coach Brad Scott has always praised Gamecock fans for their love and support. Saturday was no exception when, at the beginning of the Auburn pregs conference, Scott thanked the fans for supporting the team. This statement, however, is an oxymoron. I commend Coach Scott for thanking the fans, but I totally disagree with him on this subject. I have been an avid Gamecock fan for my entire life. I have gone to the games, rain or shine, win or lose. Sure, I've been discouraged, and I've wanted to leave, but something always keeps me at the games. Maybe it s the possibility that Carolina could actually win. Let's go back in time to the 1992 season. Carolina went 0-5 until freshman quarterback Steve Taneyhill came in and lead the team to a 5-1 finish. I Another example is the so-called "Chicken Curse." Carolina had never won a bowl game until Scott's first year of coaching at USC when Carolina went on to devastate West Virginia. Face the fact that Carolina is not playing well. The team and coaches are discouraged. The fans are discouraged. Yet, imagine what it would mean to the players if the fans attempted to stay in the stands and support the team. Who knows, we could possibly encourage them and lead the team to a victory. It's so much harder to put your heart and soul into something when no one is supporting you. Our team and coaches are very talented and capable. I have full confidence that they can pull this season out of the trenches and make this a winning program. For those of you who stayed late into the fourth quarter, I congratulate you. You have shown what Gamecock spirit is all about. Your dedication means so much to the athletes and coaches. A ? That situation would make you feel pretty bad. That's exactly how , the football team felt. Therefore, next week when we play | Kentucky, please show what true Gamecock spirit is. Our team needs our support because where else will they get it? 1 i i I 1 %
