The uptown district of Charlotte recentl;
played host to 48 bands on five stages spreai
across a two-day period.
The action was centered on College and Try
on streets where the main stage was located Sept
26 and 27.
The big acts included Local H, Barenaket
Ladies, Violet Femmes, Cravin' Melon, Jump Lit
W tie Children, Jerry Lee Lewis, C&C Music Fac
tory and Foo Fighters.
The Carolina Music Fest began Friday whei
all five stages opened at 5 p.m. A fairly small, bu
rowdy, crowd was on hand for a loud performano
by Local H. The duo of Scott Lucas and Joe Daniel
got the crowd moving with their performance o
songs like "Eddie Vedder."
The Canadian band once banned from play
ing in Toronto because of their name followed Lo
cal H on the main stage. The Barenaked Ladiei
a were simply fun. They put on a show that con
tinuously gave the crowd something to smil<
about.
Whether it was performances on "The 01<
Apartment," "Hello City" or "Brian Wilson," the]
were able to keep the crowd dancing like it wai

In the traditions of the album Add it Up
the Violent Femmes pulled out all the stops. Bri
an Ritchie began with his digeridoo, eventually
performing on a conk shell. Gordon Gano was re
laxed and cool, finishing the show with the all
^ familiar lines of "Add it Up."
