Wow, my third year at USC (still a
sophomore, though) is already under
way, and I can sit here and just look
around and see the changes that have
occurred on campus.
One of the great improvements at
USC besides the new Chick-Fil-A would
have to be the addition in the number j f
of television appearances for Carolina
athletics.
Monday, Ted Turner and crew are
the first to visit as TNTs WCW MONDAY
NITRO visits the Carolina Coliseum.
Pro Wrestling is once again sweeping
the nation, and the entire country will
be watching what surely will be a soldout
crowd at Frank McGuire Arena as
Ric Flair and his friends tussle around
the ring.
Flair's entrance should be pretty f j
powerful because he will be entering to

ine tune 01 zuux, me Carolina looiDau
I theme song. It should be good warm-up .
for the first Gamecock football game.
And speaking of football, the
Gamecocks will spend their fair share
of time on the tube this year. It will all
start with the season opener Sept 6 when
! the Gamecocks will face the Golden
Knights of Central Florida on FOX
SportSouth.
Then, the Gamecocks also can be seen
on SportSouth against East Carolina f >
Sept 20. And speaking of East Carolina,
because of some engineering mishaps
CClemson engineers that is). Carolina
only got 5,000 tickets to the game.
And those 5,000 tickets are mostly
going to be on temporary bleachers. I am
sure our big donors are going to be very
happy with that. If we ever play East
? Carolina at home again, I hope we give
them seats out in the fairgrounds.
But anyway, the Gamecocks trip to
Athens will be on CBS national television. '
This is the game of the year for the
Gamecocks because it wifl feature Carolina
and the Bulldogs battling it out in the
SEC East for that third spot behind
Tennessee and Florida this year.
That game, in just the second week
of the season, will have a lot to do with
the Gamecocks bowl hopes and dreams
this year.
And the Gamecocks will face Auburn
1 xt a 1 i 1 1
ana jventucity at nome on regional
television after a road game against #
Mississippi State, which is slated for
pay-per-view.
The Gamecock basketball team also
will be on ESPN, ABC and CBS several
times this year, as well as appearing on
regional television.
A record 17 games are slated for either
regional or national coverage. As great
as last year's SEC Champions were, they
only were on television 11 times.
This television exposure can be
attributed to the excitement and winning
that Brad Scott and Eddie Fogler have
brought to USC over the past four years.
MIB Move over Will Smith and
Tommy Lee Jones. The world no longer
needs you Men In Black to protect us
foam the aliens that have inhabited Earth
The new Men In Black are led by
Anthony Wright and Darren Hambrick,
and they will protect the Gamecock
faithful from the those hated Gators,
Tigers and Wildcats this year in WilliamsBrice
Stadium.
The new black jerseys feature two
garnet Gamecock emblems on both
shoulders and the word "Carolina" across
the front in garnet.
I he black jerseys were added this
year to help distinguish the Gamecocks
from the rest of the SEC, which has the
majority of teams wearing some shade
of garnet and only one team, Vanderbilt,
wears black.
Quick Predictions The Gamecocks'
games this year all fall into four different
categories.
The first is easily winnable games.
Those games would have to be Central
Florida, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
The second category will be games
the Gamecocks can win if they play solid
ballgames. Those would include games
against East Carolina, Mississippi State
and Arkansas.
The third category is still winnable
games, but these games are special and
will be big games that Carolina will have
to step it up to beat. These games are
the games against Georgia, Auburn and
Clemson.
The fourth category is championship
games. They are the games against
Tennessee and Florida.
In category one the Gamecocks should
win all three ballgames. In category two
the Gamecocks should win two of those
three games. Then category three is the
most important and will determine if
USC goes bowling or stays at home. '
The Gamecock can win them all or
lose them all. Then in category four any
win would be a major upset.
But however the Gamecocks fair they
will be fun to watch this year.
