Johnson garnered first-team status while Plew
earned a spot on the second team.
This is the third time Johnson has been named
to the team. She earned third-team Ail-American
honors after her sophomore year and last year
moved up to the second team.
Johnson is only the fourth Lady Gamecock
softball player ever to be named an Ail-American

Johnson finished up the season with a record
of344 and an ERA of 0.38. She threw 61/2 nohitters,
including three perfect games.
She also struck out 399 batters in 242 1/3
innings and at one point pitched 96 consecutive
shutout innings.
Plew earned the second-team honor as a utility
player. The catcher/left fielder led the team in
triples and RBI and broke the school record for
doubles in her career with 57. Plew earned a thirdteam
All-America selection after her sophomore
year.
Off the field, the athletics department announced
the naming of its softball complex as Beckham
Field, in recognition of the financial gift recently
made by Gamecock Club members David and
Mitzi Beckham of Lexington, S.C.
The Beckham's gift of $250,000 will be used
to more than double the existing seating capacity,
and add lights and restroom facilities. The
renovations are to begin this summer.

South Carolina Athletics Director Mike McGee
said.
But the moments of bliss will be overshadowed
by the disappointment of the Lady Gamecocks'
trip to the WCWS.
The Lady Gamecocks finish the season 63-5
after having one of their best seasons in school
history.
Thev broke the NCAA record fcr longest winning
streak when they ran off 38 in a row and had
their highest ranking ever in the polls when they
were ranked second for the latter stages of the
season.
They also captured the inaugural SEC
championship and the school's first-ever SEC
tournament title.
South Carolina will lose five key members of
the championship squad, but the pieces are in
place for another run at the Women's College
World Series next year.
"I hope that this is just the first step for this
team," Compton said. "This group of seniors
(Johnson, Plew, Chanda Lee, Carrie Lyons and
Kelly Dammer) took us to that next level and if s
been a while since we've been here."
And if the Lady Gamecocks repeat this year's
performance next year, it won't be long until they
