Think about spending part
of the summer in Paris,
the famed city of lights
and love.
For the six USC <
students who will travel
to France this June, the most important
aspect of Paris is the city's presence as
fashion capital of the world. ;
For a little longer than a month,
USC fashion merchandising majors i
Laryn Beauchamp, Karen Burkett,

Merry and Elizabeth Tbmer will attend
the prestigious Paris Fashion Institute
to learn about the'ins and outs" of the
fashion industry, everything from design
to production to retailing.
While in Paris, the students will
listen to guest lecturers from the Parisian
fashion industry, attend fashion shows i
by top designers, tour the Haute Couture
"high fashion" design houses and
complete research on the left bank of
Paris, an area where most young
designers start out.
The Pans * ashion Institute is
prestigious, and it's difficult to get
accepted," said Kitty Strickland, senior
instructor in the College of Applied and
Professional Sciences Department of
Retailing.
Applicants to the Paris Fashion
Institute had to fill out an application,
write a paper, demonstrate strong
academic standing and have some
experience, Strickland said.
"We're fortunate to have six people

Not ccly will the women be learning p<
about fashion, they will also see the Pi
cultural aspects of Paris by visiting
places like Versailles and the Louvre 11
museum on weekends, Strickland said, o \
"It's an international affair," es
Strickland said. sa

"We're required to do an internship ai
in the summer. Fve already done two, or
but I didn't want to waste the summer,"
Burkett said. "I always wanted to go In
to Paris." p]
Hauser, a junior, said she feels re

Originally Hauser planned to take

iris Fashion Institute.
"It's a wonderful opportunity, and
hink Professor Strickland has gone
it of her way to find us great
periences for internships," Hauser
LIU.
Like Hauser, Clarke wonders about
ling able to communicate in French.
"The only thing Fm worried about
speaking the language and knowing
e little things that are different from
ir country," Clarke, a sophomore, said.
"I think it's gonna be great because ? *
