At the time of this writing,
the alternative band part of
Cockstock has drawn a
"crowd" of about 30 people
to the Tbwnship Auditorium.
The low turnout could be
blamed on the weather. After
all, on a rainy day who wants
to drag themselves out of bed
to drive to an indoor festival?
Perhaps the main show,
112, will entice more people
to show.
Not only are they
scheduled to appear in the
early evening, but they are
also the only nationally
recognized act performing.
Both of these factors may
draw a larger crowd.
Cockstock took on a
different face this semester.
There were more local bands,
and the national act is R&B.
Carolina Productions saw
past Cockstocks as being too
commercialized so they tried
to go back to basics and
helped showcase local bands
and up-and-coming national
acts.
We applaud the change
because it accommodates

For three days this week,
people such as Oprah Winfrey,
President Bill Clinton, former
Joint Chief of Staff Colin
Powell, former President
Jimmy Carter, John Travolta,

are among the thousands of
Americans who have gathered
for a summit in Philadelphia
to discuss volunteerism and
the welfare of children.
The conference is stressing
five principles in aiding
American's children? giving
children a solid relationship
with an adult, a healthy start
in life, a strong education that
emphasizes job skills, safe
extracurricular activities and
an interest in doing
community service.
About 2,000 delegates from
140 comunities across the
U.S. will discuss these issues
with dozens of local and
national government officials.
The idea of the summit is

But somehow, the
freshness of the day-long
music celebration was not
communicated well enough
to the student body.
It sounds exciting, yet the
attendance numbers are not
as high as we thought they
would be for Cockstock.
Garnering slightly over
20% of student activity fees,
Carolina Productions is one
of the most heavily endowed
student organizations.
Yet, with all the money
and changes made, Cockstock
seemed a bit flat this year.
Blame it on the rain, on lazy
students who didn't want to
drive to the Tbwnship, or the
time of year (the weekend
before the last day of class).
Maybe Carolina
Productions should have
shelled out a little more
money and advertised more
extensively, or at least paid

The goal of the summit

Communities all across

Sounds almost too warm

Hopefully, the spirit and
