Princeton students are
supposed to be smart, but they
weren't smart enough to stay away
from Lady Gamecock Field
Wednesday as USC swept the
Tigers, 2-0 and 8-0.
In the process of upping its
record to 26-2, South Carolina ran
its school-record winning-streak
to 24 games.
So what's the key to this
remarkable run?
"I think we've been staying up,
staying positive and knowing that
whether if s close or not, we have
the ability to pull it through,"
pitcher Trinity Johnson said.
"We've been taking it gameby-game,"
senior Tina Plew said.
"We really don't concentrate on
what records we've broken or how
many games we ve won.
In the first game, Carolina
scored only two runs, but that
would be more than enough for
Johnson.
Johnson used a good mixture
of pitches as she dominated
Princeton, giving up only two hits.
"I just threw my usual pitches
but my riseball was working well,"
Johnson said. "I worked on
throwing some more offspeed
pitches in there."
Batteiy-mate Hew agreed. "As
usual, [Johnson's] rise was working
well. In the first game, defensively
we were strong. We held tight
behind'T. J.' and she pitched a
really good game."
\ The only scoring for the fourth1
ranked Lady Gamecocks came in
the third inning.

In the second game, the Lady v
Gamecocks pounded out 12 hits
and scored eight rims to propel
themselves to their 24th-straight
victory in a game that only went
six innings because of the "Eight
run mercy rule."
The big inning for Carolina
was the second inning.
Junior Carrie Elliott and
freshman Leana Troesh each got
base hits and then McCutcheon
walked to load the bases. Senior
Kelly Dammer drove in Elliott
and Pietro drew a walk to bring
in Troesh. <
