ON WEDNESDAY The latest in arts and entertainment in1 L1L South By Its Photographers" portrays the South from a unique SheU*y Lee Adams' artistic take on the South, artistic perspective. This juried exhibition of contemporary photography showcases the works of 47 Southern artists from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, the Carolinas, ( Virginia, Florida, Tennessee and Texas. The artists' photographs form a representative view of both the new and old South by contrasting nostalgia with a present-day outlook. 1 The collection features 83 photographs that range in subject from portraits i and still-lifes to landscapes and genre scenes. Some of the Southern landscapes capture the beauty of the countryside through pictures of majestic trees, mountain roads and abandoned plantations, while < other works focus on modern-city scenes found throughout the South. ? Other pieces illustrate how the South is growing, changing and experiencing its share of natural disasters, such as the flooding of the Mississippi River. Over 1,000 photographic entries were submitted to a panel of jurors.
