In its inaugural season as a varsity
sport, the Lady Gamecock riders are
currently ranked second in their
region and are in contention to bring
I a title back to Columbia.
Coach Janet Brown and her
assistant have assembled a strong
cast of riders who have had few
difficulties adjusting to being promoted
to varsity status.
"I was on the club level for a year
before this and it is a completely
different ballgame [this year]," senior
Adriana Black said. "We get to do
weight training and take two lessons

With being promoted to varsity
level, Brown said the expectation
level has also risen.

Nothing has changed for the USC
men's basketball team.
Having beaten Vanderbilt
Wednesday to stake its claim to at
least half of the SEC title, it would
be understandable for the USC men's
basketball team to bask in the glow
of victory.
If they're satisfied with their
considerable accomplishments this
season, the Gamecocks aren't telling
anyone.
Rounding out the regular season, ,
USC travels to Kentucky Sunday to
take on the No. 3 Wildcats, who have (
won their past seven games to push (
their record to 26-3 (12-2 SEC). <

are about equal except for Georgia,
who has an excellent program.
Currently, the Lady Gamecock
Riders are in second place in the
region. They trail Georgia by 38
points and lead third place Berry
College by 21 points.
"We've still got three more
competitions to do and anything can
happen in them. I do expect to stay
in second place if not move up to
first," Brown said.
Even with their successes, the
future for Carolina Equestrian is
brighter as a strong class of riders
is expected for next year.
"The quality of the riders who'll
be coming in next year is really going
to be coming up from what we have
now. We've had a lot of riders that
have recruited us this year," Brown
said. "We've got 18 riders that are
coming to USC next who have
recruited us."

After the game, Pitino praised
the Gamecocks but warned that his
team would be ready the next time
the two teams played.
The time has come, and it can't
get any bigger.
If Carolina falls to Kentucky
Sunday, they'll appear in the SEC
Tournament as a No. 2 seed. If the
Gamecocks win, however, a case can
be made that they deserve a No. 1
seed in the NCAA Tournament.
While Kansas and Minnesota's
top spots are secure, Duke's and
Kentucky's potential No. 1 seeds are
shaky. If USC wins Sunday they
could get a No. 1 seed.

"We just need to make sure we

The Wildcats will be tougher this
game that last time. They have been
unstoppable of late, winning their
past seven games by an average of
20 points.
Those wins include a 37-point
win over Villanova and last week's
win at Vandy, during which they
came from 22 points to take a three

For USC seniors Davis and Nate

Before the game, both were honored

While Davis picked up two early

Wilbourne's last home performance
