The Blatt P.E. Center has added
a new aerobic studio that, in its first
two weeks, brought in over 2,000
visitors.
The new studio, part of the
Campus Recreation Fitness Program,
was completed in the fall of 1996,
and classes began in November. Since
then, there has been an outpouring
of support from students and faculty.
Labia Tharp, coordinator of fitness
programs, said, "We get a lot of
participation. Participation levels
this semester have doubled and
tripled from last semester.
"There's been a higner activity
level in [the P.E. Center]".
Classes for students, faculty and
staff are $10 a semester, and anyone
interested in joining can sign up in
the bottom level of the Blatt. "We're
offering 42 classes a week, including

and acrylic paintings stand out almost
immediately as one walks through
the gallery.
This year's collection includes 62
entries, said Alice Bouknight, curator
of traveling and temporary exhibits.
Other interesting works at the
exhibition fall into the categories of
mixed media, prints, synthetic stucco,
xerography, crayon, photography,

weekends," Tharp said. "Classes
range from step to slide to high-low
impact."
Although more students frequent
the studio, there are still a large
number of faculty attending classes
as well. "It's nice to see them on a
regular basis, too," Tharp said.
Each aerobics class lasts about
an hour and incorporates both
cardiovascular and toning exercise
portions along with a preliminary
warm-up and final cool down.

of a balanced lifestyle. "Aerobics," f<

There are 15 qualified instructors n

"The instructors are all certified,
most of them through national fitness a

Tharp said. T
Megan Holl, one of the instructors, a

semester yet, and there's been a 100 t<

enthusiasm among instructors." v
