After being out of Frank McGuire
Arena tor as many as A) years, some
of the most memorable Lady
Gamecocks returned Saturday for
the Alumni Game.
The White team, led by all-time
assists leader Mindy BaHou, knocked
off the Black team, 68-65.
It was more than just a battle
between the squads?it was a grudge
match between Sportsradiol400 talk
show hosts turned coaches Kevin
Cohen and Steve Berkowski.
Berkowski directed the winning
team to a defeat of his boss.
"A lot of jokes will be made on
the air," Berkowski said. "The good
thing is that I have the opportunity
to poke fun at him first Monday
because I have the morning show."
The Black team consisted of
Mindy Ballou (*83-'86), Britianna
Canty (*91-94), Jenny Randall Collins
(*92-'95), Lisa Siaz C87-90), Charlene

For McAlister, the game was an
opportunity to see things from the
other side, of the court again.
She is in her second year of
coaching the Ridge View High girls'
basketball team after assisting at
Dreher four years and Hammond
for one.
"When you've coached for seven

H.L. Davis, who was only
averaging 3.6 points per game prior

extra work in practice to help his
shooting.
"Before, my jumper wasn't falling"
H.L. Davis said. "I stayed after
practice, and coach told me to remain
calm. That's what I did tonight."
USC was led in scoring by another
Davis, this one senior guard Larry
Davis, who scored 22 points on three
of seven shooting. BJ McKie added
16 points of his own.
"Congratulations for our team
for not looking ahead," USC coach
Eddie Fogler said. "We were real
pleased with our bench play, and
our big people battled."

a chance to see their coach in a

"She always plays with us during
practice, and she's still a great player,"
Ridge View's Allyson Lawson said.
"I expected her to do really well and
break a few ankles. She's really
helped us a lot, and she's more than
just a coach."
The White team took an early
lead and went to the locker room
ahead 35-22 at halftime. But Cohen
was determined not to give up.
McAlister nailed a bucket with
15:96 in the game to give the White
squad a 43-42 lead.
But Ballou led the Black team
back to the top with two baskets,
managing to pull out the 68-65 win

Having begun the second half in
a lull, the Tigers caught the
Gamecocks asleep, and LSU went
on a 9-0 run, tying the score at 39

USC quickly answered LSU's
spurt with 3-pointers by L. Davis
and H.L Davis. The Gamecocks used
a 27-11 run over the next 10 minutes
- to put away the Tigers.
When Bud Johnson dunked with
2:58 remaining, USC had a
comfortable 78-58 lead.
Sophomore forward William
Gallman scored 12 points and
grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Junior guard Melvin Watson
delivered a scare when, with 6:47

his left arm. Watson said the iqjury
wasn't serious and he'd be ready for
