"We've been doing some good things here lately, and its a lot of fun when you can do these things and continue to win. It's a big confidence boost for us, because [Ole Miss is] a great team." USC was led by guard BJ McKie, who scored a game-high 26 points, making nine of 14 shots from the field. The sophomore, who is growing accustomed leading the team, also pulled down a game-high, and careerhigh, 11 rebounds. "We knew they were going to come out with a run and give us their best punch, and we took it right back to them gftid responded on both sides of the court," McKie said. USC coach Eddie Fogler said he didn't expect his team to beat the Rebels in such a dominating a fashion. "We were a good team today," Fogler said. "The margin of victory is quite surprising. Mississippi is a very good team." Fogler said he was concerned before the game that USC would take the Rebels lightly. Ole Miss, whose record droDDed to 12-6 (4-4 SEC), had quality wins this year over then No.3 Kentucky on Jan. 11 and then No. 22 Arkansas on Jan. 2. "We showed [the USC players] film of the Mississippi-Kentucky game, because I was concerned to some degree that my players didn't understand how good they were." To Fogler's pleasant surprise, USC understood the challenge quite well, and did so especially by halftime, when they held a comfortable 41-29 lead. After falling behind 23-21 in the first half, USC rode the heels of a blistering 17-1 run to take a 39-25 lead when forward William Gallman 3ank two free throws at the 1:49 Student ticket d BRYAN JOHNSTON Sports Editor The last two home games against Georgia and Ole Miss have had over 11,000 fans in attendance. Having the people in the seats doesn't mean anything if they're not vocal and make their presence known. Gamecock basketball fans have been there and been vocal, and head coach Eddie Fogler said he appreciates it. "It's interesting to see opposing ?aches' faces during introductions and when the game gets intense." Fogler said. "Our crowd has been tremendous and we thank them for all they do. Hopefully they can keep it up." Your next chance to see the Gamecocks hoop it up is Tuesday, Feb. 4 against No. 2 Kentucky. The Wildcats are 18-2,6-1 in the SEC. So you want to go, huh? Hie run was sparked by GaDman, who scored eight of the 17 points during the stretch. The Rebels helped a little too, by going on a five minute, 53 second scoring drought after holding their last lead of the game. The Gamecocks never looked back in the first half, having extended their lead to as much as 14 when, after Rebels coach Rob Evans was called for a technical foul at the 2:28 mark, Davis sank one of two free throws to give USC a 38-24 lead. In the second half, Davis had a small score to settle with Ole Miss guard Keith Carter. With just over eight minutes left, v^cti ici sputtcu up IU1 a o-puiiitci from the baseline. Davis rushed over to block the shot and then grabbed the ball, which first appeared headed out of bounds. Davis tossed the ball to Arthur Carlisle, and the two then began a ^ two-on-one fast break, which was 1 completed when Davis took Carlisle's feed in the lane for a dunk to give j USC a 66-51 lead. For Davis, there was some extra ( motivation because the block, steal s and dunk sequence brought perhaps \ the loudest roar of the day from \ 11,028 fans on hand.
