Much media coverage has
been dedicated to mail fraud
of elderly: citizens, but now it
seems a growing amount of
mail fraud victims are high
school and college students.
While it is fairly common
knowledge to toss the "You've
Won a Million Bucks!" letter
that comes in the mail, young
adults looking for ways to pay
for college will not lightly toss
off scholarship applications or
offers.
Scholarship fraud hits young
adults where they are hurting
for money the most.
It is necessary to carefully
review private scholarship
offers or contests.
Fine print must be read and
re-read. If there are application
fees, or a fee for receiving the
scholarship, the scholarship
is quite possibly fraudulent.
Scholarships are given to help
us save money, not fork it over.

On Friday, James
Englebrecht, the first male
West Point cadet to be charged
with raping a fellow female
cadet, was acquitted from the
charge after a jury of seven
male Army officers decided he
was innocent.
f "We expected this in a man's
world," said the mother of the
unidentified female cadet.
She's got a good point.
In the civilian world, a juiy
is made up of one's peersgenerally
a good helping of
men and women of all sorts
of ethnic backgrounds.
Somehow, a jury of seven
male Army officers doesn't
seem to be representative of
P the entire West Point
community, which is made up
of both male and female cadets.
Why were there no females
on the jury? And, just how
different would the verdict
