They found it. Albert Hill's down-to-earth lyrics and head jamming instrumentals brought a frenzied and slightly intoxicated crowd to its feet Stage divers and crowd surfers found the new sound irresistible, and even the most mellow party-goer was left jumping for more. Albert Hill's followers sang along to familiar songs like "dezeray's hammer" and "so the row" off the band's first album, "Fistunderfinjer." Those new to the Albert Hill sound could join in the amusing chorus of the band's intense interpretation of Prince's 1986 hit, "Kiss." T-shirts, bumper stickers, and a 5track CD were also available, although the latter sold out before the band was even finished playing. Much like the band members themselves, Albert Hill's sound is a swirl of styles that come together to produce what can only be described as unleashed adrenaline. The cover describes this sensational mix as anything from Kenny Hogan's bashing percussion and Chris Francisco's hackina screams tn .Tnel Cook's classical guitar and Aaron Whisnant's chants of the night. Since the band's humble Spartanburg beginning in May 1994, they have added keyboardist Robbie Bowen, who is not only kickin' on the keyboard, but is also cuter than Charlie Sheen. On stage, Albert Hill shows its personality through teasing insults and friendly jokes. All the band members seem to possess outgoing personalities and a wry humor that is hard to resist. Their laughter is contagious, and so are their joke topics, as anyone at the concert can verify. Somewhere, along with all the notes and lyrics and rhythms and sweat, Aaron finds the time to make ridiculous faces and encourage audience participation. The rest of the band is just as crazy, and enjoys every minute of it. Goodnatured quips and smiles are exchanged all around, and their individual attitudes saturate an otherwise serious performance with laughter and fun. Robbie was a recent addition (1996) to the band, but has since proven himself invaluable to any performance. The name "Albert Hill" was taken from the obituary page of the local paper,, and was almost changed to "Alburt Hill" before the band decided to invest their money and claim the official rights to the original name. v Encouraged by Paul Riddle, the A original drummer of the Marshall Tucker band, Albert Hill has gained a strong I following that continues to grow. Riddle's faith in the band resulted in his position as their manager in 1995. They worked their way from an outdoor party in Pauline to local Spartanburg clubs Magnolia Street Pub and Zapata's, to Atlanta. Their success can be attributed not only to their talents as musicians, but also to supportive family and friends, as the band is quick to point out. The band members are actually modest guys, as their southern upbringing dictates that they keep their egos in check. This, however, does not stop them from rocking their sound into a hypnotized u ; ??r? ,..;n auuieiiie, 111 a pciiuimanic mat win leave one's ears ringing for more.
