I've been at this university for three
years, so you'd think I'd have
figured out some time ago that the
administrators here don't give two
hoots about the needs of students.
Between tuition increases, hokey
"technology fees" and jokes I've been
hearing about Marriott improving the
food, this school is really starting to get
on my nerves. And how is it, that, even
though they can afford bricks for the
Humanities fountain, they could never
afford plain old water?
Well, Luty, you may be admonishing,
what's brought on this pessimistic
attitude?
My sour demeanor can be described
quite succinctly with one ominous word:
parking. Have you tried it this semester?
You on-campus students may or may
not have had a taste, but if you live offcampus,
you've probably been complaining
for the past two weeks.
For one thing, an entire off-campus
student lot has been designated
faculty/staff parking this semester. Guess
how I found out? I parked there this
summer and was slapped with a happy
USC ticket! Oh joy! I can just imagine
the guy who made this decision. "Those

campaigning that will continue
until the general election.
The conventions of 1996 were madefor-TV
marvels that were meant to
entertain and energize. They seem to

Bob Dole's convention speech was
his best yet. Republicans were wildly
enthusiastic over Dole's choice of Jack
Kemp to be his running mate. The fact
that Kemp has historically disagreed
with Dole's position on affirmative action
and the treatment of illegal immigrants
seemed not to matter. The fact that Dole
has disagreed with Jack Kemp's idea of
how the entire economy works seemed
not to matter. And indeed it did not
matter.
These are important campaign issues
for the Republicans this year, so Kemp
and Dole just changed their minds. There
were other stars at the Republican
convention. Elizabeth Dole gave a heartwarming
speech, much to the delight of
Tri Deltas everywhere. In fact, after her
performance, polls showed that the
majority of Americans believe Elizabeth
Dole would make a better First Lady
