The $1500 scholarship is presented annually to a student member of the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers Association in memory of Edward Block, a long time athletic trainer of the National Football League and one of the pioneers of the National athletic Trainers Association. The USC Black Faculty and Staff Association sjave the awards to individuals promoting affirmative action in the community. The team mission is to design and implement programs to help local communities improve the quality of rural life through environmental education, community outreach, water quality assessment, 911 emergency assistance, and wildlife habitat and grassland surveys. Team members receive a yearly allowance of $12,000. The educational award is sent directly to the participants loan institution if student loans were used to pay for college. If not, the award is put in a savings account, and team members can use the money to pay for their college tuition. Gundler said she believes the program is a valuable experience. She said, "Instead of taking all the time, we should learn to give back."
