Fire officials think Brad Bowman, 45, was smoking in his bed when the fire started. Bowman, who was a paraplegic, died of smoke inhalation and carbon-monoxide poisoning, Richland County Coroner Frank Barron said. Bradley Anderson, Assistant Fire Chief for the Columbia Fire Department, said the fire started shortly after 4 a.m. and was under control at 4:32 am Anderson said damage estimates are at $25,000.
