Thanksgiving, and my family
observed our normal collection of
quirky Thanksgiving customs.
My father deep-fried two turkeys.
If you've never had deep-fried turkey,
you should try to find someone with
a huge pot and a gas burner to cook
von nn rvno Wo in-ioAfo fnrlrmra
with csgun spices and drops them in
heated oil. The result is a big ole
charred lookin' hunk of tasty turkey
flesh fit for any table. Most families
have turkey leftovers for weeks after
? most major holidays, but we go
through two birds in two days. (Which
makes me recall the old saying, "A
bird in the hand is worth two in a
vat of hot canula oil.")
We also put up our Christmas
decorations. We start out by
assembling the tree. None of that
sap-filled, flammable holiday cheer
for us; our evergreen Christmas
comes courtesy of polycarbonate and
other man-made wonders. Of course,
tree assembly doesn't come without
problems, most notably the color
coding used to match tree branches
with their appropriate level on the
tree. Ifs possible to make a tree with
a base of branches smaller than its
tip if the color coding tabs are missing.
We usually assemble the tree and
then drive it up into the woods, where
we compare it to other trees to make
sure assembly is correct.
After the tree is suitably snapped
together, we start wrapping it with
enough lights to illuminate every
mobile home, plastic Nativity scene
and 1976 Lincoln Town Car this side
of the Mississippi River. My older
brother used to work at a drug store
where he would accumulate defective
Christmas decorations for rock-bottom
prices. He's basically technically
inept until it comes to electronic
Christmas decoration repairs. He
can get practically any string of
miniature lights to work, no matter
how screwed up they might seem.
So my brother does the required
yearly checkup of all the lights, and
we wrap and wrap and wrap until
the tree is barely visible through the
blinding multi-colored beacons of joy
to the world.
Another tradition for

morning venture into the vast crowds
of day-after-Thanksgiving-sale

While shopping, I also got a is

all the character figures much more s1

had any muscles in the movies. The

I also got a chance over the
