Drinkin: In an attempt to get in touch with my readership the other day, I asked two friends what computing or Internet issue they would most like see covered in my column. Being college students, they immediately said: "Alcohol." Now. ordinarily, I cover the social, moral and ethical aspects of the Internet and computing or the emergence of new technology. The though of covering alcohol on the Internet took a little getting used too. Then, I realized that this is the 21st edition of "Technobabble" and that I happen to be 21, and before I knew it, the alcohol topic seemed to make sense. Before I begin, a little disclaimer is probably in order. I wish to say that this column is not intended to encourage under-age drinking (or even legal-age drinking for that matter). I also strongly believe people should consider the effects of alcohol before they drink and that they should never drive while intoxicated. To that rr7?i ll Mental illness has warning signs, too. Withdrawal from social activities. Excessive anger. These could be the first warning signs of a mental illness. Unfortunately, most of us don't recognize the signs. Which is tragic. Because mental illness can be treated. In fact, 2 out of 3 people who get help, get better. For a free booklet about mental illness and its warning signs, write to or call: National Mental Health Association P.O. Box 17389, Washington, D.C. 20041 1-800-969-NMHA. If there was ever an index to beer on the Internet, this is it. They even have a section just for Guiness. Yet another site that might appeal to the alcohol-crazed college student is the index of drinking games at http://realbeer.com/rbp/rbp.games. html.
