Whoever said you can't go home again
obviously didn't know what they were
talking about. The USC women's soccer
team reigned victorious over the Lady
Bucs of Charleston Southern University
at home Wednesday afternoon, winning
4-0. The win upped Carolina's record
to 6-2 and a perfect 4-0 at home. Of the

corner kick by
Tanya Yavarow. After the kick by
Yavarow there was a mad scramble for
the ball in front of the CSU net, the opposing
goalie slipped and fell, and Smith
booted the ball into the net to give USC
the early 1-0 lead. Smith scored again
five minutes later at the 13:07 mark.
She scored an unassisted goal off a
monster shot that went into the top left
corner of the net. Smith arched the shot
from 50 feet away on the right-hand side
of the field. The shot swung over the
CSU kepper and gently fell just under
the crossbar for the score. Smith
went on to record the hat-trick after she

82:43 mark. After scoring only one goal
during this season before this game,
Smith was excited aboutheating up on
Wednesday. "I think I picked the right
game to get in on the offense," she said.
"I think, as a team, we're starting to put
it together on offense."
Ferry Moniuszko scored anotner ot i
Carolina's goals at the 51:35 mark off
an assist by Smith. Smith swung a leftright
pass across the box to Moniuszko,
who took the rock past two defenders
and struck into the left side of the net,
past the outstretched CSU keeper.
Head Coach Sue Kelly was impressed
with her team's offensive display at home.
"It's outstanding for a young and first
year team, but we can still do better,"
she said. "We're going to run into tougher
competition during the second half of
our schedule, and we're going to have to
finish better." With the offense hitting
on all cylinders, Coach Kelly is not worried
about adjusting for Louisianna State
on Friday. "We're not going to adjust for
Friday's game,"Coach Kelly said, "we're
going to let them adjust to us."
Yesterday's hat-trick scorer, Debbie
Smith, says, "I was recruited by LSU,
so it's a personal game for me. We also
need a win in the SEC." LSU is also a
first year program and is currently tied
for first in the SEC West.
There were a few sub-plots running C
through Wednesday's game against ?
Charleston Southern. USC Assistant
Coach Karrie Miller was the head coach
at CSU until this year, and she did feel fe
odd about coaching against her former b<
club. "It's definitely one of the most different
games Fve ever coached," Coach of
Miller said after Wednesday's game, ci
