Russell House Ballroom renovations
are scheduled be completed by Aug. 27,
according to Bill Davis, project manager
from Crouch Construction.
Renovations began in May and improvements
include new acoustical panels
covering the outer walls, a new internal
sound system and carpet which
will cover the perimeter of the ballroom
floor.
They've gutted the whole ballroom.
The orange panels have come down and
they're putting in new floors," said
Carmela Carr, Russell House Interim
Director. "I think if s been close to 25
years since the ballroom had been renovated."
Renovations to the ballroom will cost
$173,791, according to a report from

Carr said renovations to the ball- \
room have caused a number of organi- j
zational meetings and events to be ,
rescheduled, and Russell House officials
have made every effort to accomodate
groups who have reserved space. 1
"Back in the spring when we did lot- s
tery sign-ups, we mentioned to them
(student organizations) that these were ,
all tentative dates and that we may have
to shift some things due to renovations,
not knowing how long renovations would *
take," she said.
"Space in the Russell House fills up 1
rather quickly. There are dates that free r
up, and we work with groups that have j
had events planned in the a ballroom,"
Carr continued. ^

If you're a freshman who just arrived
at USC, or a student who simply
has not discovered that there are
computers on campus, read on.
The university provides access to
a wide range of computer systems, including
mainframe systems.
In order to discover the extensive
services are available at USC, all stuHpnts

should call HPS or the Services Centre
at Computer Services.
By using the CMS system, you can
access a wide range of internet tools
including e-mail, Usenet news, mailbased
discussion lists, ftp, telnet, gopher

The Computer Services Division
provides nearly 100 handouts to help

Student Government is now accepting
applications for the 1995-1996
Freshman Council.
The program is specifically intended
for first-year students who desire
an intense involvement in USC
organizations, activities and leadership.
In order for Freshman Council to
successfully convey its aim of aiding
students in becoming better leaders
and putting them in touch with both
the social and philanthropic aspects
of college, 4 goals have been established
by the program.
One goal for the program is to de
velop freshman leadership skills to
become positive members of USC.
The other purposes of Freshman Council
are to acquaint members with university
resoures, to develop a group
to provide feedback to Student Government
regarding the freshman class,
and finally to establish a group that
will untie the freshman class.
