Dave Golan, a three-year letterman in the 1980s and member
of South Carolina's 1988 Pinal Four team, was named as- v

Golan replaced his former teammate, Doug Allison, who
accepted the head coaching position at Furman in June. j

Golan was a member of the 1984,1985 and 1988 Gamecock
squads which combined to post a 48-11-7 (.780) record J(
and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals (1985) and Final Four '
(1988). Golan started every game at the defender position his J
freshman and sophomore seasons, leading Carolina to what '
is still a school record 20 wins in 1985 while starting all 24 ^
contests. After spending two years at the North Carolina 1
School of the Arts, golan returned to Carolina and played in
18 matches, starting 11, for the 1988 team which advanced i
to the Final Four in Bloomington, Ind, before losing to Howard 1

Golan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisci)linaiy
Studies from South Carolina in 1989 and his Master
tf Arts degree in Theater from Carolina in 1992. While workng
on his master's degree, Golan was an Olympic Developnent
Program staff coach (1991-92) and served as an assisant
coach to Phil Savitz on the 1992 Irmo High School AAAA
state championship squad.
An accomplished actor, Golan is a member of the Screen
\ctors Guild and has appeared in television commercials for
Saturn and the South Carolina Department of Highways and
Public Transportation's Highways or Dieways* campaign. He
las appeared in professional theater at the USC Summer
Rep and at the prestigious Williamstown (Mass.) Theater Festival.
Golan is a 1984 graduate of W.T. Woodson High School
