USC history Professor Edward
Beardsley received the campus chapter
of the Daughters of the American
Revolution's NS DAR Medal Saturday
at the Fort Jackson Officer's Club.
Beardsley, who portrayed Franklin
Delano Roosevelt at the ceremonv. was
honored as part of the chapter's U.S.
history celebration and commemoration
of World War II.

Beardsley said. "I didn't know what
was in store. I was asked to take part
in history week, and I had no sense of
what was going on. I was very flattered
and very surprised."
The history medal is presented to
a person who has made historical contributions
to the community and in
the field of history.
"Dr. Beardsley was nominated for
the award because he has taken his
marvelous talent outside the classroom
to the community at large, demonstrating
significant contributions to
the understanding and promotion of
American history," said Edie Purvis,
DAR chapter regent.
Applicants must have supporting
letters of recommendation from distinguished
people in the history field.
Beardsley was nominated by USC faculty
for the award and approved by
the national chapter of the DAR.
