ENDICOTT, N.Y. (AP) ? Ron Luciano,
a former umpire who brought
great showmanship to the job, was
found dead Wednesday in the garage
of his home. He was 57.
An AL umpire for 11 years, Luciano
worked die 1974 World Series

1975 and 1978. He later worked as
a television commentator for NBC

LARCHMONT, N.Y. (AP) ? Paul
Robeson, an All-America selection at
Rutgers in 1917 and '18 who became
famous as a singer and movie star,
will be posthumously inducted into
the College Football Hall of Fame.
Robeson, blacklisted on Broadway
after 1945 as a Communist sympathizer,
will be inducted Dec. 12
along with 12 others, including running
back Jim Brown of Syracuse
and coach Frank Rush of Arizona
State.
Also selected were Chris Burford
of Stanford, Tommy Casanova of 1SU,
Jake Gibbs of Mississippi, Rich Glover
of Nebraska, James Grabowski of Illinois,
Jim Martin of Notre Dame, Dennis

NEW YORK (AP) ? The NFL has
set a special meeting for Feb. 16 in
Dallas to discuss the Los Angeles
Rams' move to St. Louis.
League spokesman Greg Aiello
said it has not been decided whether
the league will vote on the move during
the meeting. Owners had been
scheduled to vote during the annual
spring meetings March 12-17 in
Phoenix. Approval is required from
23 of the league's 30 owners.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - One day
after announcing their intention to
move to St. Louis, the Los Angeles
Rams said quarterback Chris Miller
will be one of six players made available
in the expansion draft. Miller,
29, signed a three-year contract worth
$9 million after the 1993 season.

Canucks after agreeing to allow
lawyers to sort out a contract dispute.

advised UNLV coach Tim Grgurich
to spend six weeks away from the
game to battle exhaustion that has
been building since he took over the
troubled Rebels program in November.
Grgurich has been sidelined since
Jan. 6 and spent a week undergoing
tests at a California hospital for symptoms
related to exhaustion. ^

NHL has "a lot of healing to do," NHL
commissioner Gary Bettman said he
will not discipline Chicago defenseman
Chris Chelios for his threatening
comments before the lockout.
Chelios had made remarks regarding
the safety of Bettman and
his family, suggesting a crazed fan
or player might attack the commissioner.
Chelios called his conduct "inexcusable"
and thanked Bettman for
his leniency.
