Both teams are coming off devastating dej
feats. Carolina suffered a heartbreaking 5642
' setback to the game East Carolina Pirates,
while the Bulldogs were humiliated at home
\ 42-18 by the Auburn Tigers.
Mississippi state carries a 3-2 record into
1 the game (1-2 SEC). Despite the loss last weekend,
the Dogs won a thriller last month at home
5 with the Tennessee Volunteers.

fensive line that rivals those in the professional

As for last year's contest in Starkville, Mississippi
State earned its first SEC shutout in
40 years. There was nothing complicated about
MSLTs game plan for the Gamecocks, as the
Bulldogs ran the ball a season high 63 times
for 269 yards and had an edge in possession
time of almost 14 minutes.
The defense was just as effective, holding
Carolina to 222 total yards and sacking Gamecock

offense, while the defense features the basic 43.
MSU finished with a dismal 3-6-2 record last
year, while their SEC record was 2-5.
Gamecock Notes: Carolina quarterback
Steve Taneyhill established three single game
passing records, including most yards (451),
most attempts (58), but the valiant effort was
not enough to offset an amazing afternoon of
pigskin displayed by ECU as the Pirates amassed
621 total yards.
Senior wide receiver Kurt Frederick was
on the receiving end of his first career touchdown
pass against ECU. His play with time
running out in the first half closed USC to within
27-14.
The Gamecocks continue to lead the SEC
n the critical turnover ratio category. Through
fix games, Carolina has come up with 19 takesways,
while its offense has turned the ball
