COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) ? Steve Taneyhill found something
positive to take away from South Carolina's loss to East
Carolina besides three school passing records.

completed 39 of 58 passes for 451 yards in Saturday's 56-42
defeat to East Carolina. All three totals were school records.
Taneyhill said the Gamecocks (4-2) improved dramatically
from their season-opening loss to Georgia, winning four
straight. He thinks similar success can come from this defeat.
"You discover where you're most vulnerable," he said.
For South Carolina, that might be defense. The unit gave
up 621 yards and 56 points, well above its averages of299.2
yards and 11.2 points the first five games.
"We didn't perform up to our capabilities or standards. I
don't have an explanation for it, other than we did not come
to play," coach Brad Scott said Monday.
Blast Carolina's offensive output was the second most ever
allowed by the Gamecocks. The Pirates scored four touchdowns
in less than five minutes as the Pirates took a 27-0
lead in the second Quarter.
The loss ended USCs four-game win streak and the talk
of big-time college football success that gripped supporters.
"It seems like there's a different mood around here today,
in the locker room, the people around town yesterday," Taneyhill
said. "You see all the bowl talk has stopped."
Scott said he was embarrassed by his team's effort but
would not dwell on the mistakes.
"You can pout and scream and holler and carry on, but I
don't think thaf s going to correct our problems," he said.

East Carolina quarterback Marcus Crandell threw f

The carnage did not stop there, however. The Gameax
