Sound familiar? After the more;han-impressive
victory over LSU last a
weekend, the radio waves have been F
oombarded with talk of winning the t
next four games and being 8-1 going p
nto the clash with Florida Nov. 12. r
Naturally, tomorrow's game against
the East Carolina Pirates is being over- s

Surprise, everyone. East Caroli- I
na is going to make the trip from
Greenville, N.C. And yes, they do plan r
on playing the game and maybe even i
winning! i
The Pirates have a 2-2 record but
don't be fooled. In their opener against s
the Duke Blue Devils, the Pirates bat- f
tied the Devils tooth-and-nail in {
Durham before falling 13-10. Currently,
Duke is 5-0 and one victory i
away from a bowl berth.
At Temple, in the second week of
the season, the Pirates trounced the i
Owls 31-14. i
Sept. 24, in their home opener, <
ECU came up three points short to
the tradition-laden Syracuse Or- ]
angemen.
Finally last week, the Pirates dom- i
inated Southern Mississippi 31-10.
Pirate runningback Junior Smith became
the school's all-time leading rusher
in the game with 2,950 career yards.
East Carolina is averaging 361.0
total yards per game, compared to 340
by the Gamecocks. The Pirates are
averaging 22.5 points per game, compared
to USC's 21.4.
The Gamecocks hold the edge in
total defense, however, yielding only
299.2 yards per game compared to

After four games in 1994, the Pirates
rank 42nd in total defense, ninth
in pass efficiency defense, 20th in scoring
defense and 27th in rushing defense
