When using the Internet or Bulletin
Board Systems, you need to be nice. I
see more and more posts these days
lamenting the fact some users are being
inconsiderate and downright rude. If s
sad to say, but we now have the equiv
alent of reckless drivers on the information
superhighway.
So what exactly is inappropriate behavior?
Well, I don't wish to turn myself
into the Emily Post of the Internet,
but here are a few rules that should help
you mind your manners while on-line:
1. Be a good little "newbie." If you
are a new user on a BBS or Net service,
then the old-timers refer to you as a newbie.
While it is a cute-sounding name,
the title isn't always conferred with affection.
Newbies are often seen as annoying
novice users who ask stupid questions
and make lots of mistakes.
There are ways to be a good newbie.
The most important thing to do is get
the FAQs. Frequently Asked Questions
files answer the queries new users most
often pose. Reading FAQ files will help
you understand new services and will
keep you from bugging veteran users
with questions they have answered a
million times before.
You should also listen and learn. If
you are new to a service, there will be
many people there who know more than
you do. You need to respect this by listening
for awhile before you contribute
information of your own. When you feel

The mounting accusations against
the Robert Redford-directed movie mirror
charges against "Twenty-One," the
rigged 1950s game show whose contestants
were secretly given answers.
Specifically, both the game show
and "Quiz Show" seem to dodge the
truth and create clear heroes and villains
for popularity's sake?more TV
viewers in one case, bigger box-office
in the other.
From invented dialogue to fabricated
court transactions, "Quiz Show"
often takes broad dramatic license.
Because the film uses the names of
real people (some still living) and has
been positioned by its makers as a
righteous statement on ethics and
morality, the "Quiz Show" deviations
raise provocative questions about Hollywood's
conscience ? or its lack of
