Even though Treadmill Trackstar's first
CD has not even hit the stores, Columbia's new
acoustic duo has already made a place for itself
in Columbia's music scene. Thev even
opened for Hootie and the Blowfish last Friday
at the Township.
Treadmill Trackstar, made up of of Angelo
Gianni on guitar and vocals, and Heidi Brown
on cello, has recently released a CD and an accompanying
book of poems and short stories,
both entitled "Excessive Use of the Passive
Voice."
The book was written by Gianni and is available
at Superior Feat Playhouse, Intermezzo
Book Store and Manifest Discs and 'i ap*3 in
Columbia. The CD will be out in Octobsi.
Gianni's work focuses on the insignificance
of life. His themes are often those of separa
tion and angst. He asserts that people can do
nothing that will be meaningful or change the
world, but they should try to anyway.
This theme is apparent in his short story
"Lemonaide." Three characters who are beggars
feel like they are members of "a different
species" because of their low social status. They
decide to make money by selling lemonade,
but no one buys any. Instead, the people give
other beggars money. The three friends are
trapped in a society that does not want to see

mem get, aneaa.
"Excessive Use of the Passive Voice" also
focuses on these themes of alienation and de
spair, with Gianni's powerful voice demanding
the listener's attention.
Gianni is off to a promising start. Hopefully,
this talented local artist will continue to
produce CDs and books. You can check out
Treadmill Trackstar at 10 p.m. Sept. 8 on the
deck at Rockafellas'. Admission is free.
