NEW YORK (AP) With four
days left until the deadline for
canceling the season, acting commissioner
Bud Selig met with Labor
Secretary Robert Reich, who
was far from optimistic about the
season continuing.
Reich said he didn't, detect
any movement in the owners' position,
and the two sides "are still
very far apart."
Selig wouldn't comment on
what was said. He wouldn't predict
whether negotiations would
resume before Friday's tentative
deadline.
TENNIS

to reach the quarterfinals.
Agassi's next opponent is
No. 13 Thomas Muster, who beat
two-time French Open champion
and No. 3 seed Seigi Bruguera
6-4,7-6(7-4), 6-4.

retired due to an injured leg.

Graf, No. 4 Mary Pierce, No. 7

broke the record set by
Cleveland Browns fullback Jim
Brown in the 1950s and 1960s.

NEW YORK (AP) The shortest
off-season in NHL history has
ended.

The New York Rangers ended
the 1993-94 season by winning
the Stanley Cup on June 14.
